Mountain Zebra National Park 2
Dag 12, zondag 3 december.
Wanneer je wilt profiteren van het mooie ochtendlicht en van het feit dat het wild zich van drinkplek naar graasplek verplaatst en dus goed zichtbaar is, moet je vroeg uit de veren. Om 6.45 uur waren we vanochtend aan de late kant. We rijden twee prachtige routes waarbij we op de eerste route veel grazende kuddes zien. De tweede route leverde qua wild niets op, maar was om te rijden avontuurlijk, met o.a. doorwaadbare plaatsen in rivieren. De uitdrukking ‘veel stof doen opwaaien’ is, volgens ons, afkomstig uit Zuid-Afrika en daarom namen we aan het begin van de middag een verfrissende duik in het zwembad. Ook ’s middags gaan we er weer op uit, omdat we graag de neushoorns en buffels willen zien. Maar helaas, niet op zondag. Moe nie worry nie, alles sal reg kom. Dat blijkt wel uit het feit dat het met de bergkwagga (berg zebra) weer goed gaat, terwijl deze bijna uitgestorven was. We hebben er genoeg gezien vandaag, en opvallend veel veulentjes.
Day 12, Sunday 3 December.
If one wants to take advantage of the beautiful morning light and the fact that the animals migrate from the drinking places to the fields so they can be spotted easily, one has to get up early. At 6:45 am we were a bit late. We drove two beautiful trails and saw many herds of different grazers on the first trail. The second trail we saw no larger animals, but it was exciting to drive, e.g. through river crossings. It was extremely dusty today, so we took a refreshing dive into the swimming pool after lunch. We wanted to see the buffalo and the black rhino so in the afternoon we went on the road again. But unfortunately none of them showed themselves. As the saying go’s: don’t worry, be happy. The mountain zebra at least seems to be happy and stands a good chance to be saved from extinction. We saw plenty of them with young ones to expand the population.
